First Program Students Carry Martin Luther King's Dreams Forward
In House 91, we celebrated the life and work of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It began with a short skit that was enacted by H42, in which one of their teachers handed out lollipops to only girls or only boys. The students talked to each other about what they noticed in the skit and then a few children shared their reactions and noted the unfairness they saw. Next, we saw a slideshow that highlighted some of the unfairness that Dr. King experienced as a child and some of the actions he took as an adult to address injustice in his time.
We ended with a video that featured images from his life and the some of the uplifting words he spoke to inspire others and propel the Civil Rights Movement forward.
Each House created a poster that reflected the many discussions, lessons and activities that took place during the week. The posters are on display in Lobby 51.
