The High School Director search process was comprehensive and methodical. From an impressive and extensive candidate pool, the High School Director Search Committee interviewed eight semi-finalists on site and forwarded three finalists to the community. The finalists then met with groups of students, faculty, parents, and administrators who completed candidate surveys. Following thorough reference checks, Ms. Stein offered Ms. Herrera the position, which she graciously accepted.

Reflecting on her appointment, Celeste commented, “To be chosen as the next high school director is an honor. I am eager to expand my role within Dalton, and to partner with students, parents, faculty, staff and administrators in new ways. It is my hope that these collaborations will lead to a division focused on the development of strong moral character, the consistent achievement of potential, and the importance of building community.”

Ms. Stein also thanked current High School Director Lisa Waller, “whose vision and leadership for the past eleven years gives Celeste a firm foundation from which to build.” She also introduced Lisa’s new Dalton leadership position as Assistant Head of School for Progressive and Inclusive Practice.

Looking forward to Celeste’s new role, Ms. Stein concluded, “Those who know Celeste emphasize and appreciate her collaborative style, warmth, her leadership capability, communication capacity, effective decision-making, creative problem-solving and strong intellect. Those who interviewed Celeste described her as intelligent, articulate, forthright, practical and humorous. All look forward to working with her.”
