Original Minds - History Students Predict Food Futures

Students in the eleventh-grade Parkhurst Program history course entitled "Nature/ Technology/ Power"(taught by Kevin Slick) traveled to the New Lab in the Brooklyn Navy Yard to work with the Extrapolation Factory (this year's Original Mind participants).
The Extrapolation Factory first gave the students the task of identifying current "signals" (noteworthy events) in the current food system in order to then extrapolate food futures as they pertain to production, distribution, regulation, and consumption. The students first explored these ideas conceptually and then developed physical prototypes in an effort to the tell the story of the food future they explored.  The overall experience revealed once again a Dalton student's ability to engage critically with complex ideas and to develop creative and bold insights into future developments.
