Grandparents Drs. Agnes Lee and Shiang-Yu Lee Visit Mandarin Classes To Share Their Knowledge
Dr. Agnes Lee and Dr. Shiang-Yu Lee (grandparents of Dylan Lee '21 and Cameron Lee '24) visited our 8th grade Mandarin language classes and shared their vast knowledge of Chinese art and language.
What a wonderful experience for the entire Dalton community!
Dr. Agnes Lee exhibited her brush paintings in the lobby of Big Dalton. Her exhibit, entitled "Poetry in Painting" involves "...meticulous repetition, thus creating visual abstractions of Chinese poems which act as expressions of her own feeling and memories and elicit a profoundly personal and emotive reaction from the viewer. As with traditional Chinese painting, a deeper meaning is hidden in each of Agnes' works that is waiting to be discovered by those who look for it." Several works of calligraphy by Dr. Shiang-Yu Lee were also on display.
Following the viewing of the art exhibit, 8th grade Mandarin students explored the history of the Chinese language with a classroom lecture by Dr. Shiang-Yu Lee, after which Dr. Lee led the students in a hands-on calligraphy lesson.
