Olivia Cooney '27 Knows What It Means to be "Green"
As a second grader, Olivia Cooney entered Scholastic’s The Power of Green 2017 Essay Contest. The contest was to write an essay and illustrate how you and your family are saving energy at home. The competition, open to all K- 5 students in the tri-state area, was an independent project offered to all students. Olivia went forth unafraid and entered. She combined her passion for writing and sustainability to compose an award-winning essay, cleverly written on reused cardboard, which won the grand prize! She won $500, and her teacher won $100. At the beginning of this school year, her second-grade classroom, House 23, received $1,000 of Scholastic books!! Now as a 3rd grader in House 44, Olivia’s accomplishment has forever left an impression on House 23. We are so proud of Olivia’s hard work! Click Here to read the winning essay.
