POCOC (Parents of Children of Color) Kick-Off: Community Building Marshmallow Challenge!
Celeste Herrera, Director of the High School, welcomed over 80 parents (new, current, and alumni) and their children to the first POCOC meeting of the year, Friday, October 13. Building on the PA’s theme of collaboration, community, and communication, parents tackled the Marshmallow Challenge by working together to build the tallest freestanding structure – using raw spaghetti - that could stably hold a marshmallow on top.
It was exciting to see community members, who had just met, collaborating and constructing a viable, marshmallow structure within 18 minutes! Afterwards, parents engaged in a conversation with Andy Ramirez, Director of College Counseling, who shared insights about the college admissions process and his role on the inaugural Equity Leadership Team. Tracy Fedonchik, Director of Middle School, was also in attendance and addressed parents questions and concerns. We look forward to continuing the dialogue.
Please mark your calendars for the holiday meeting on December 1, 6:00 – 8:00 PM. All are welcome!
