Mandarin Students and Their Families Enjoy a Traditional Chinese Meal
Mr. Lanphier’s 8th grade Mandarin 3MS students (and their families) met at a Chinese restaurant in Flushing, Queens for a community meal. The restaurant, called Da Dong Bei, serves traditional northern cuisine, including the “three earthly bounties” (eggplant, potato, and peppers), pot-fried pork, and spicy tiger greens.
Families, including parents, grandparents, and siblings, as well as Ms. Hwang-Dolak (MS/HS Mandarin teacher) and Dr. Langer de Ramirez (Language Department Director), sat together at long tables to share in this traditional meal while Lan Laoshi explained the significance and history of some of the main dishes. Confucius Classroom and the Dalton Mandarin program sponsored the event.
