Poetry Reading and Jazz Mashup at High School Assembly
Dalton is blessed with multi-talented students who are thankfully courageous enough to share their literary and musical creativity with peers and teachers. The December 7 High School assembly showcased several HS poets and jazz musicians, who graciously shared their poetry and jazz combo improvisations. The event was emceed by Creative Writing Coordinator and English teacher Christopher Hood, in association with Jazz Teacher Glenn Makos.
As Mr. Hood mentioned, it takes great courage to share poems openly with peers, but it is especially admirable to do so in front of such a large audience, which was wonderfully attentive and appreciative of all the performers. Dalton's Coffee House band wrapped up the event by performing an original pop ballad. After the performances, Mr. Hood invited student submissions and encouraged everyone to look for the upcoming issue of Blue Flag, Dalton's Creative Writing magazine that features students' writing and artwork.
