Edinger House Participates in Special Refugee Housing Workshop
Parents of 4th Grader Sam Kaplan, architects Elaine Sun and Charlie Kaplan, held an exceptional workshop with Edinger House on refugee housing. They began with a fascinating slide presentation in which they invited the children to think about what precisely a refugee was, their reasons for leaving, the number in the world today, where they go, what happens when they arrive, and what were their physical and emotional needs?
After sharing examples of actual refugee communities, they went on to show the students an exciting variety of actual and proposed housing --- some of which were very artistic and inventive. The following day, they returned with materials for each child to create a model of refugee housing. At the end, each child presented a model, explaining to the group the thinking behind it. Edinger House learned a lot and had a great time too. Thank you to Elaine Sun and Charlie Kaplan for this generous experience.
