Fourth Grade Teacher's Picture Book Reviews Featured in the New York Times

Stories on migrant workers and refugees frequent the front page of the New York Times. According to Fourth grade teacher Monica Edinger, it is no coincidence that they have become important topics for children's books. Monica's six children's book reviews occupy a full page in the August 30 Book Review section. Read the full review entitled, "Picture Books Tell Children the Harsh Stories of Migrants and Refugees."
These books can help children understand the troubling news they see in the media, In the review she writes, "Telling these stories seems more important than ever — even, and some might say especially, to children. A wave of picture books has arrived to help with this difficult task."

Ms. Edinger is the author of Africa Is My Home: A Child of the Amistad. She blogs at Educating Alice.
