How many seed are there in 100 apples? Ask anyone in House 32 that question. Wearing newly made chef hats, House 32 began the day by making "Awesome Applesauce," being sure to save the apple cores for later. Can you guess what secret ingredient they added? After lunch, the students removed the seeds from the apple cores and used their mathematical knowledge and cooperative skills to work together in pairs gluing five seeds onto apple cutouts.
The children estimated how many seeds were in all of the apples used to make the applesauce. Later, they would use the apple cutouts to skip count by fives to determine how many seeds there actually were in all of the apples. Last but not least, House 32 used descriptive adjectives to compare and contrast five different kinds of apples (Golden Delicious, Honey Crisp, Granny Smith, Gala, and McIntosh apples), and then graphed the results on a giant chart!
