Culinary Historian, Educator, and Chef Michael Twitty at HS Assembly

A group of Dalton students led a panel discussion with Michael Twitty, author of The Cooking Gene, to hear his perspective on historical and contemporary African American food culture.
As a culinary historian and educator, Michael has established himself as a prominent voice on the food cultures of Africa, African America, and the African diaspora. In addition to running his own food blog, Afroculinaria, Michael's authoring of The Cooking Gene earned him the James Beard Foundation Book Award for Book of the Year, the first time an African American received this honor.

In this presentation, Michael and Dalton students covered a variety of topics including genealogy, culinary influences from the American South, and how food can serve as a connection to our past as well as the culture of others. We'd like to take this time for thanking Michael for sharing his expertise and perspective and were honored to have him as a guest!
