Middle School Math Students Participate in Mathcounts
The Middle School Math Team achieved great results at Mathcounts, a national contest for students in Grades 6-8 to compete against their peers.
The Mathcounts Competition Series has four levels of competition—School, Chapter, State, and National. Sprint, Target, Team, and Countdown represent the four rounds of competition. Altogether the rounds are designed to take about three hours to complete.
Dalton students prepared twice a week before this event. The team came in fifth place out of 42 teams. The top five teams at Chapter will now progress to the state level in Albany in March. Each school can send five of their ten students to this event. There is a special countdown round at Chapter for the top 16 students. Lucas Chen '24 and Kai Mawhinney '23 made it to the countdown, and Lucas came in second place individually.
Math Team members included: Lucas Chen '24, Kai Mawhinney '23, Michael Jiang '23, Katie Hwang '23, Luke Huang '23, Haeon Lee '24, Julia Miyasaka '24, Ashwin Ranjan '24, Narayan Topolli '24, and Daniel Wagman '25.
