High School Students Learn About the Origins of Economic Sanctions
Dr. Nicholas Mulder delivered a lecture to high school students on the origins of economic sanctions and how they shaped twentieth-century world history. Professor Mulder spoke about who was responsible for developing and using the "economic weapon," how the implementation process has evolved, and why they continue to be so widely used today.
Mulder recently finished his Ph.D. in the Department of History at Columbia University and is working on a book titled "The Economic Weapon: Interwar Internationalism and the Rise of Sanctions, 1914-1945". In his research, Mulder has been especially interested in questions of political economy, the different varieties of internationalism (liberal, communist, fascist, financial, anti-imperial, colonial, religious, legal, etc.) and the history of war.
