Students Celebrate Service Learning at WE Day in Brooklyn

Students in Dr. Reid’s 9th grade Biology class attended WE Day, an annual event by the WE Charity to celebrate youth-led service-learning and student activism.
WE Day, held at Barclays Center, serves as a motivating kick-off for Dalton's biology service-learning projects that students will develop and implement during the school year. An estimated 15,000 elementary through high school-aged students from the tri-state area attended the event, which featured a series of motivational speakers and performers such as Millie Bobby Brown, Jameela Jamil, and Amber Heard.

Ninth grader Elize Dracopoulos stated, “For me, the main message of WE Day, and of many of the speakers, is that anyone can make a difference, no matter their age or background.” Lauren Barakett, another ninth grade student in the class wrote, “...it was very interesting that so many different schools from so many different boroughs and parts of the city were all coming together to this event. Overall, the entire experience was very engrossing for me and inspired me to continue to get involved in service-learning.”

Stay tuned for more information on this year’s biology service-learning projects!
