Third Graders Take a Byte out of Computer Science Education Week
Energetic third graders participated in the Computer Science Education Week, working together with high school Computer Science students to solve logic problems and build mechanical computers.
During this week long event, each student plays a series of activities to learn essential coding skills such as sequencing commands and practice perseverance when debugging errors. One of these activities included Turing Tumble, a game where students build marble-powered computers to solve logic puzzles and discover how computers work “under the hood.”
Students worked together in teams to think creatively, divide a complex problem into smaller parts, make close observations, and identify logical solutions to problems. Over 30 high school students came to coach and inspire our 3rd graders, encouraging them to think logically and stick with a problem in the face of challenges -- themes that can be applied to any discipline.
