The Dalton Middle School debate team achieved tremendous success at the last tournament of the regular season, hosted at the Nightingale-Bamford School on Saturday, March 7, 2020.
Dalton students won 20 out of 24 debates, and had both the highest number and percentage of wins of any school in attendance.
The top speakers at the tournament were: First place and gavel winner Zach Berg ’24, fourth place Arav Mehta ’25, fifth place Jasper Karlson ’24, sixth place Wessal Bakry ’24, twelfth place Ashwin Ranjan ’24, and thirteenth place Aida Kasparova ’25, out of 16 awards given. There were only three undefeated teams at the end of the tournament, all Dalton students, and four of the top five teams were from Dalton. First place went to the team of Jasper Karlson ’24, Wessal Bakry ’24, and Zach Berg ’24; second place went to Efe Ilgar ’25, Alex Kim ’25, and Arav Mehta ’25, and third place went to Aida Kasparova ’25, and Nilomi Weerakkody ’25. Milo Pishev ’24, Quinton Gallant ’24, and Ashwin Ranjan ’24 took fifth place, with three wins.
Truly, it was Dalton’s day and a memorable way to wrap up the regular Middle School debate season, while qualifying for regionals.
