The 50th Anniversary of Earth Day is April 22 and the Environment Club is celebrating and raising awareness in different ways.
For example, the club is sending a weekly email to fellow students in April on a different climate change-related topic—last week, the topic was ENERGY. The upcoming HS Assembly on April 17 will focus on Climate Change. The Environment Club has also compiled helpful facts, tips, and suggestions for a greener environment and recommends checking this outon April 22-24!
FACTS
Unlike fossil fuels, renewable energy sources like hydropower, wind and solar do not directly emit greenhouse gases.
Energy-related CO₂ emissions are expected to grow by 40 percent between 2013 and 2040.
The transportation sector contributes 23 percent of global energy-related greenhouse gas emissions.
One wind turbine can produce enough electricity to power up to 300 homes.
Transportation contributes significantly to air pollution, which is the biggest environmental threat to human health.
Last week's easy action step: Leave the lights off!
Because we are all home all day, we’re using up a lot of electricity. We challenge the Dalton community to shut off their lights during the day and use natural light instead. At a minimum, turn off the lights whenever you leave a room.
