High School Students’ Conclude Earth Month on the Subject of Plastic

For the final week of Earth Month, HS students raised awareness about the harmful effects of plastic on our planet and its creatures, particularly in the ocean. They suggested many ways that we can reduce these harmful effects.

FACTS
  • Since the 1950s, around 8.3 billion tons of plastic have been produced worldwide, and only 9% of it has been recycled.
  • Worldwide, around a million plastic bottles are bought every minute and about 2 million plastic bags are used every minute.
  • Plastic is killing more than 1.1 million seabirds and animals every year.
  • Over the past 50 years, world plastic production has doubled.
