A team of dedicated high school students and cross-divisional faculty (Dylan Lee ’21, Niko Ramirez ’21, Aaron Erlanger ’21, Gus Bae ’22, Nate Mettke ’21, Roxanne Feldman, Kieran Raines, Tom Armstrong) have been collaborating to build a Digital East 89th Street Dalton within Minecraft.
Minecraft, an online, multi-user Lego style building game, offers many educational and community bonding opportunities. It allows students and teachers to build and code, create artistic expressions, and gather in a virtual environment.
The students are excited to share this still evolving realm and hope to eventually make it accessible to more Dalton members as a community-building STEAM activity. Expanding Minecraft Dalton creation to include the First Program Building, the 87th Street PE Center, and the 89th Street Annex are potential future projects. The founding builders would love to inspire other Dalton community members to collaborate on this.
The team has created custom experiences such as a Scavenger Hunt, Maze, Boat Race course, and a Parkour Course, and they plan to expand the content. Please reach out to Computer Science teacher and Department Chair Tom Armstrong at tarmstrong@dalton.org or MS Librarian Roxanne Feldman at rfeldman@dalton.org for more information on how to get involved and “book a tour” of Minecraft Dalton.
