Inspired by our group's show of support, the diversity of faces represented, and a desire to involve our kids, we thought a simple way to express our gratitude was by writing the words "Thank You" on a face mask and wearing it in our communities.
As we move toward reopening our cities, into warmer months, and more opportunities for interaction, we wanted to remind ourselves that we wear masks not out of fear, but rather in mutual gratitude. We wear masks in gratitude for the diversity of workers who sacrifice daily for keeping us healthy, safe, and fed. We wear masks to protect the most vulnerable who are being disproportionately affected by the virus. We wear masks in gratitude to each other for the daily kindnesses that we each experience.
In this effort, we are asking friends and families to decorate or make a mask that says "Thank You" in any language and to wear it in your community. We ask if you could send us a photo of you wearing it with a note saying Thank You ____ for _____. For example: Thank You to the scientists, doctors, and nurses working together to heal and to find a cure. Thank you to my teachers for teaching me to be brave and to listen to and work with each other. People can be as creative or as simple as they like. (If you can, we ask that you make an extra mask and send it with a note to an individual or a group you want to thank.)
You can learn more about us and submit your images and words of thanks at the
Global Thank You Project. Please spread this message to friends and family near and far.
