Dr. Chris Emdin Talks About Reality Pedagogy at the HS Assembly

We welcomed back Dr. Chris Emdin who is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mathematics, Science, and Technology at Teachers College, Columbia University, and an Associate Director of the Institute for Urban and Minority Education.
After leading professional development work with faculty and staff this summer, Dr. Emdin returned to engage with Dalton students for a virtual presentation on Reality Pedagogy (RP) and the concept of the rights of the body. Students heard about their teacher's professional development training around RP, their own roles as learners and advocates for each other, and how to open up space for critical dialogue to move towards healing of past wounds and a reimagining of our community's future. Yom Fox, Director of Community and Global Partnerships states, "As we continue the work of becoming an anti-racist institution, we are committed to being in conversation with students. We need to let them know about the anti-racist work that faculty and staff continue to do, and Dr. Emdin has been a crucial part of that work since June. We also wanted to focus on the importance of co-generative dialogue and collaborating with their teachers to improve their classroom experiences."
