After months of lobbying the city for a permit (it took a village!) to close 91st Street between Park and Madison during recess, our request has finally been approved.
This means that every day, the security team places traffic barriers at the ends of the block, transforming a city street into an expansive play space. With enough room for two full Houses, students can run about outside, enjoy the fresh air and have fun under the watchful eye of adults who encourage safe behavior and social distancing.
We are so grateful for the access because now each House can have recess outside of the classroom. We love seeing our students dashing about and hearing their laughter as they play hopscotch, Red, Light, Green Light, 1,2,3, and Fruit Salad. A special thank you to the parents who helped make this happen and our neighbors for their understanding and flexibility.
