Scope Scholastic magazine named Dalton 6th grader Saira Kapoor '28 a Roberto Clemente contest winner for the October 2021 issue of the publication. Saira is one of only three winners nationwide to earn the accolade.
In a message to Saira, Scope's editorial director, Kristin Lewis wrote, "Your essay on Roberto Clemente was compelling, informative, and incredibly thoughtful. We especially enjoyed your closing paragraph!”
The contest is named in honor of Clemente, the first Latin American-born Major League Baseball (MLB) player inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame. In addition to his outstanding ability on the field, Clemente was known for his outstanding charitable works across the globe.
Saira’s prize for the contest is a copy of The Way Home Looks Now by Wendy Wan-Long Shang.
