HS Junior Luke Rostan ‘23 Wins 2022 Warren Johnson Essay Prize

Dalton HS Junior Luke Rostan ‘23 received the Warren Johnson Essay Prize for 2022! HS English Department Chair Sarah Kerman presented Luke with the honor at HS Assembly on Tuesday, May 10.
Luke's essay, which he wrote for HS English Teacher Sean Mattio's class American Literature: Horrors and Hauntings, is titled "The Man of the House." The essay is a comparative analysis of the patriarchs in Faulkner's novel As I Lay Dying and Kubrick's film The Shining

The Johnson Prize is awarded annually to the best essay submitted for an English class, in the judgment of the English Department. The award is in memory of and honors former Department Chair Warren Johnson, who was deeply invested in fostering the art and craft of student writing.

Each year, the winning essay gets published in Dalton's literary magazine, Blue Flag and the winner receives a book prize.

Honorable mentions went to Jameeiah Domercant '23, Ginevra Gilmore '23, Haeon Lee '24, Leela Mukherjee-Sze '23, Stella Nakada '23, and Rebecca Wasserman '22.
