3rd Graders Catch Fish and Collect Data at Beczak Environmental Center
Third Graders in Ashley Shaheen’s House ventured to Yonkers to visit the Beczak Environmental Center on May 18.
The center is known for its incredible seining (fishing with a huge net) program, and students enjoyed wading into the river to catch and release fish using a large net!
After seining, the class returned to the classroom to record their data and analyze the different species they collected. In addition, the students also embarked on a scavenger hunt to see how many Hudson River treasures they could find. They encountered Spartina (marsh grass), driftwood, and seashells along the way.
