HS Spanish Literature Class Recreates Recipe at Teaching Kitchen
High School Spanish Teacher Maria Nebres’ Spanish Literature: Food for Thought class visited the teaching kitchen recently to recreate a recipe from a book that the students are reading, Como agua para chocolate, by Laura Esquivel.
The story features Tita, a young woman whom her mother forbids from marrying the man she loves, Pedro. Since tradition dictates that Tita must care for her mother, Pedro weds her older sister, Rosaura, though he still loves Tita. But, unlike Tita, who pours tears and sadness while baking Pedro and Rosaura's wedding cake, the students gushed enthusiasm, warmth, and laughs in their rendering of the chabela cake.
