3rd Grade Celebrates Black History Month with African American Biography Projects

In celebration of Black History Month, 3rd graders are kicking off their biography research projects by studying famous African American figures.
For this project, each House is assigned a biographical category: leaders, artists, scientists, athletes, or entertainers. Then, during reading periods, students travel to the House that corresponds to the figures they’re studying.

This project is an opportunity for students to collaborate on research with different peers and experience a new classroom. In partnership with First Program Librarian, Christine Nassar, students are using the TIGER research process (Topic questioning, Identify and evaluate resources, Gather and cite information, Execute the product, Reflect and revise) to gather information from books and databases alongside students who are studying the same historical figure.

The 3rd graders look forward to presenting their findings to 1st graders in the coming weeks!
