An Incomparable Chopped Championship

HoS José M. De Jesús dropped in on the 10th grade's Chopped Championship in the teaching kitchen to serve as a judge along with Dalton's own Chef Michael Costello.
The students competed in several semi-final rounds of creative cookery with baskets of unusual food combos. Among others, guest Chef Gabby Perez (from the Food and Finance High School), who runs a stall at the Barclays Center with students, helped judge the rigorous and creative culinary competition. The baskets on this day included Funyons and Avocados. José later remarked, “I can't think of another school that provides students with the distinct opportunity and environment to display such remarkable creativity, resourcefulness, and joy.”

Chopped is an open call, competition, and opportunity for all high school students to participate in the market basket challenge. Chef Jaz encourages technique, flavor development, creativity, and presentation from all interdisciplinary lessons in this competition — and it's fun for faculty and staff judges as well.
