First Program Learns the Power of Voting

Earlier this month, First Program students gathered for their weekly Friday H91 assembly. The topic for that week — elections.
During the assembly, students explored big questions like Why does voting matter? When do citizens vote? How does voting work? What are examples of elected officials?

To bring the lesson to life, FP Librarians Christine Nassar and Jordy Samuels animatedly read “Grace for President” by Kelly DiPuccio, capturing everyone’s attention with Grace’s spirited journey to become Class President. Through Grace’s story, students learned the power of individual voices and the importance of participating in elections.

In the coming weeks, First Program will hold its own election! Students will vote on new outdoor play equipment for roof and playstreet areas. Through this election students will experience the joy and responsibility of voting firsthand, making choices that impact their playtime fun.
