A Book Swap to Remember: Inspiring Young Readers

The Second Annual First Program Book Swap event for students in grades kindergarten through third grade was a resounding success, bringing families together to celebrate the joy of reading.
Families generously donated gently used books, creating a treasure trove of stories for eager young readers. Each student had the chance to browse the collection and select new books to take home, ensuring everyone discovered something new to enjoy. Over 150 children attended the event, and the room buzzed with excitement as they flipped through pages, chatting about their favorite stories and characters.

In addition to the book swap, a variety of creative crafts kept everyone engaged. Students designed their own personalized bookmarks using colorful stickers, markers, and gems to make their reading time even more special. Participants were also invited to decorate book cut outs with the title of their favorite books to add to our banner.

The highlight of the event was undoubtedly the raffle, which added an extra layer of excitement. Every participant could enter the drawing, and two lucky winners (one each from grades K-1 and 2-3) were chosen to be “Librarians for the Day.” These students will get the chance to assist in organizing books and recommending reads to classmates!

The event not only promoted a love of reading but also fostered creativity and community spirit, leaving everyone looking forward to next year’s book swap.
