Earlier this month, students from Advanced Biology attended an interactive presentation from Mr. Chinh Chu P‘26, who summited Mt. Everest in the spring of 2023.
Having recently studied the physiology of the human respiratory system — in particular how the system adapts to high altitude — the students had the opportunity to hear a first hand account of the challenges of the climb, particularly in terms of breathing. In addition to a slide show that outlined Mr. Chu's lengthy training plan, as well as details of the climb itself, he brought his climbing gear including crampons and climbing axe. He also prepared some of the packaged food that climbers carry with them.
