High School Woodworking Students Build Community Benches

During the first semester, several students in the HS Woodworking class built benches for the community.
For each bench, the students designed and created a plan, then cut, milled, and assembled it and added a final coat of finish to bring out the color and protect the wood. Most impressive is that all four of these students are new to woodworking. Their eagerness, joy, and dedication to the projects shine through in the amazing results.

The first bench was built by Lucia Marchese-Thomas '27 and Rafferty Berry ‘28. They designed and built a bench that sits outside the elevators on the 13th floor as a resetting place for those patiently waiting for the elevator. This river-styled bench has a unique design that highlights the wood grain running across the bench and down each leg.

Bryce Meadowcroft '27 and Ody Shi '26 built the second bench as a commission for FP. They met with Nurse Marybeth, listened to her design ideas, took measurements, and then designed and created the plan. The bench was delivered to FP and now provides a resting spot for FP kids waiting for Nurse Marybeth's help.
