Dance Students Explore 'Edges of Ailey' at the Whitney Museum

Students from the Intermediate Dance Technique (IDT) and Contemporary Dance and Improvisation (CDI) classes recently visited the Whitney Museum's "Edges of Ailey" exhibition, the first large-scale museum showcase celebrating the life, dances, influences, and legacy of visionary artist and choreographer Alvin Ailey.
The exhibition brought together visual art, music, archival materials, and a multi-screen video installation drawn from recordings of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater repertory to explore the full range of Ailey’s personal and creative life.

Our students have studied the Horton technique and the work of Lester Horton, who significantly impacted Mr. Ailey. Experiencing the exhibition was a valuable addition to their course curriculum, providing additional context to the Horton technique and Alvin Ailey’s contributions to modern dance.
