Grand Tenement is an absurdist
play that intersects the worlds of television broadcasting, politics
and urban America in the 1960s. The play is a commentary on the
individual alienation within the airwaves' community and America
at-large. It is, in the playwright's own words, "the greatest play
ever written for thirteen people on August 14, 1967." Let's Be Devils
is a play within a play about the butterfly effects of small actions.
Guided by one central character, The Tempter, the band of actors
portrays a suburban town going about its day. The Tempter manipulates
their actions to suit his own agenda, letting each character affect the
next until they have come full-circle back to the original character.
Originally performed in England in the 1960s, this play is a
self-conscious look at how our actions and relationships affect the
world around us, and how even the smallest change in demeanor can have
grave consequences.
