Yearlong Student/Faculty Drawing Project Launched with Author/Illustrator David Macaulay, Dalton's Original Mind Scholar

Dalton welcomed author/illustrator David Macaulay, Dalton's Original Mind Scholar, on Thursday, September 17 for a full day of meeting with both faculty and students organized by Art teacher Rob Meredith.

At these sessions, Macaulay, both a Caldecott Medal winner for Black and White and a MacArthur "Genius" grant recipient, explained how he uses his sketches to develop ideas into remarkably compelling illustrations.

This year, all students and teachers will receive sketchbooks so that they can begin to learn to use drawing as an exploration of expression. In addition, teachers will work with Macaulay during his monthly visits to develop other programs with K-12 students.

Be sure to check out the new blog posted by Librarian Roxanne Feldman at http://blogs.dalton.org/sketchbooks which will feature student and faculty sketches as this year-long project progresses.
