The annual 4th Grade Ellis Island Simulation was the signiture event of the Middle School just before the Thanksgiving Holiday.
With great enthusiasm and seriousness, the Dalton fourth graders traveled back in time to Ellis Island in the year 1900. Students received a brief identity of an immigrant in the year 1900, including a name, age, country of origin, health information, religious and political leanings, etc. After doing some research, they wrote their own autobiographies. After that, students continued to research the time period, examining the apparel that immigrants wore around the year of 1900. And finally, they arrived at school dressed as their new immigrant selves. In addition, the parents of the grade volunteered to act as Ellis Island Officials.
There will be plenty of photos on House Blogs (and in the MS Yearbook) – for now, please enjoy these and the video. And remember: on Friday, January 21st the 4th graders will become citizens of Big Dalton!
