David Gomprecht Introduces IMC to Chinese Students

On March 25th, 2011, Dalton Math teacher, Dr. David Gomprecht, lectured Chinese students on Mathematics at the Second High School Attached to Beijing Normal University.
Sponsored under the umberella of the Dalton Global Initiatives program (DGI) , Dr. Gomprecht is leading a group of Dalton students on a trip visiting several schools in Beijing, China. In his lecture, Dr. Gomprecht also introduced the students to the idea of participating in the International Math Circle (IMC).

IMC is a cultural exchange via a common interest in mathematics. The goal of the IMC is to allow students the opportunity to learn about other cultures and students in other countries through the shared exploration of interesting and challenging mathematics.

The IMC also shares the goals and philosophy of all math circles. The atmosphere should be informal and unpressured. Participating students should have a genuine interest in learning mathematics for its own sake. There is a special emphasis on mathematical writing, problem solving, problem creation, and proof.
