They were bound for Pine Forest Camp to join in activities that were coordinated by a group called Mountain Workshop, a group that designs adventures for personal growth and team building. The program encourages students to try challenges that help push them beyond their comfort zones through team-building activities, a lot of small group work, and a lot of pushing boundaries.  

In the words of Nicholas Lechich, one of the Peer Leadership Directors attending the trip, "The intent of the program is to begin to facilitate camaraderie in the grade and one of the exciting things is that all the new students seemed to be seamlessly integrated. It was almost an instant effect that this retreat had on the class as a whole in terms of bringing it together. During the campfire, in particular, everyone was arranged in a circle, singing and celebrating at the completion of the retreat, it was a great moment to observe as an advisor, because we really did accomplish what we set out to do."
