In the spirit of giving this holiday season, we are looking forward to participating in a project that we feel will be meaningful for our first grade houses. Sharing with other children is an effective way to embrace the experience that arises from community service.
The mittens and gloves will be used for holiday decorations at The First Program, and then delivered to our friends at Homes for the Homeless. Thank you for your support in helping to strengthen our students’ appreciation for those in need, especially during the holiday season.
Homes for the Homeless is a private, non-profit organization, which has serviced over 20,000 families, including 36,000 children, with efforts to reduce poverty. To help support the hard work of their program, we will be collecting mittens and gloves for the children that are currently living in transitional housing in the New York City facilities. We are asking each first grade family to help by donating a new pair of mittens or gloves. Based on the current demographics, the majority of their children (about 300) are infants to 2 years old. The next largest age group is 3 to 5 years old. Each first grade house is assigned to an age group, in order to accommodate as many children as possible.
