This past October we launched the Penny Harvest coin collection.  All First Program Houses had classroom conversations about the community issues that matter most to them.  These issues were then represented within a “Circle of Caring” chart that was posted in the East Lobby of Little Dalton over the last two months.   The third graders in House 37 have volunteered to use this Circle of Caring ideas to guide their research into organizations that will receive some of the Dalton donations in the spring.  On Tuesday, December 11, with the help of a group of wonderful parent volunteers, the First Program children sorted the coins that had been collected.  The coins were weighed, and we determined that to date, we have raised $1500.00, and we are still counting!  Last year, Dalton students made grants to Homes for the Homeless, Water for People, The Wildlife Conservation Network, and Heifer International.  We will keep you updated as to our final count and how the funds will be used this year.  We extend our appreciation to the students, families, faculty, staff, administrators and parent volunteers who made this initiative such a rousing success.
