Renée Fleming Master Class Inspires Three Dalton Singers
Sounding amazing, several high school singers, directed by Mr. Chris Landriau, HS Music Department Chair, opened an exciting vocal music assembly on Wednesday, April 17 in preparation for their performance at the Spring Benefit. The spirited group helped set the stage for a vocal master class, taught by Renée Fleming, outstanding American soprano and proud Dalton mom. Anatol Klass '13, President of the Dalton Opera Club, happily introduced Ms. Fleming and mentioned many but not all of her incredible, professional accomplishments.
Three singers volunteered; brave enough to sing solo on stage and braver still to accept Ms. Fleming's coaching in front of peers and teachers. Interestingly, the singers represented a cross-section of Dalton's community: Mr. Geoffery Perry, a teacher; Teja Gopal '14 a student; and Stepan Atamian '12, a freshman at Columbia University. All three exhibited amazing musical skill and bravery, but were held with kidd gloves, thanks to Ms. Fleming's masterful and supremely supportive suggestions.
