When they are not in class, they are behind the glass. Here, Ellen Stavitsky, Chair of High School Visual Arts, prepares the 89th Street display case with a new exhibition of Fourth Grade Collages inspired by artist Kurt Schwitters. Art teachers, co-ordinate, curate and mount work during non-teaching periods throughout the year to prepare continuous exhibitions in the 89th Street lobby, on the 12th Floor, and on the 2nd Floor exhibition spaces.
This is the first of several exhibits of fourth grade collages, representing Ms. Stavitsky's half of Edinger, Gordon and Noble houses. Look for the opening announcement and more detail in next Sunday's Weekly Blast.
Creativity and self-expression are at the core of a Dalton education. The school's philosophy is premised on first hand experience, and this is the foundation of the arts at Dalton. The Visual Arts department and other arts are the soul of the Dalton program. The school offers its students access to outstanding electives and facilities; however, the true strength of the arts program comes from the faculty - professionals in their fields. These teachers guide and educate the students with the utmost dedication and enthusiasm, always sharing the personal passions that brought them to careers in the arts.
