Have You Ever Compared the Structure of a Squid and a Snail?

Many first graders accomplished this task in their science classes. First Program students love connecting and collaborating with students from Big Dalton. This week, high school students taking an Evolutionary Biology course, shared their expertise in helping first graders dissect a squid. Their challenge this week was to compare the exterior and interior structure of a squid to the snails that they have been observing in their science classes. Using evidence gathered from the dissection, first graders arrived at the conclusion that both snails and squid belong to the phylum, Mollusca.

A special thanks to high school science teachers Lisa Brizzolara, Molly Josephs, and Micheal Sloan Warren.
