The fourth grade science class created model amusement park rides out of recycled materials. The rides included examples of at least any two of three simple machines that the grade studied. The simple machines were ramps, levers and pulleys.
The students have been investigating simple machines. They have explored how ramps, levers and pulleys can reduce the amount of force needed to do a specific amount of work. The students then worked with a partner to construct an amusement park ride out of recycled materials that incorporated at least two of the three simple machines, which they studied, into its design. In addition, they had to make a promotional poster for their ride that includes information about the simple machines that they used. To celebrate their work, the class pushed all the tables together and built a classroom amusement park from their projects.
