First Program children and their families look forward each year to attending the Multicultural Festival. This year's event was no exception. The apt theme "Flying our Flags, Heralding our Cultures", celebrated the diversity of many cultures at Dalton. The festival offered the children and parents an opportunity to experience a variety of cultural backgrounds, traditions and foods in a meaningful way.
Prior to the event, each FP student created their own flag representing their family's cultural achievements, lifestyle, and traditions. Many parent volunteers swooped in to help transform FP Houses into distinct, cultural "Country/Rooms." Through decor (Hungarian embroidery), performances (Korean drumming), and activities (make your own Viking shield, or try a shot at Canadian hockey), each room immersed families in a distinct cultural experience that included: art, music, heritage, and performing arts. Of course, the day was greatly enhanced with the aroma and abundance of ethnic foods for everyone to taste and enjoy.
