The Dalton High School Orchestra attended a daytime concert presented by the New York Philharmonic at Lincoln Center. During the intermission, the students met with NY Philharmonic Music Director Alan Gilbert. He is a native New Yorker, who attended Fieldston. He shared his recollections of Dalton vs. Fieldston football games.
A huge thanks to Dalton parent, Kerry McDermott, who is a member of the Philharmonic violin section, for coordinating this opportunity.
The students were thrilled by the opportunity to hear the orchestra play Mahler's powerful First Symphony and a chance to meet and interact with the conductor! The program included the difficult and complex "Clarinet Concerto" by Korean-German composer Unsuk Chin, who was present for the performances.
