Award Winning Author Jack Gantos Visits First Program
Award-winning author, Jack Gantos visited First Program on Thursday, October 30. He has written books for readers of all ages. Students and faculty loved hearing about his experiences. He described his process for creating a book from start to finish. His dynamic presentation included funny anecdotes from childhood. He left everyone in our community feeling inspired, and we are so glad we had the opportunity to meet him!
Here's some advice from Jack:
"The first tip is to get a good journal or small notebook—not too big as you want to be able to slip it into your back pocket. Then get a decent pen. Draw a map of your house, or a map of your neighborhood, or map of your school. Draw where everything funny, serious, insane, unexpected, heroic, lousy, triumphant and tragic took place. Think about your life as the best material in the world, and each one of your small drawings, where something interesting happened and will be the opening material for your story. Write ten minutes per day and start small."
