Seventh grade Mandarin students and their teachers, Mr. Adam Lanphier and Ms. Maria Lee, traveled to Flushing, Queens last weekend to experience authentic Hunanese cuisine.
Students were able to connect with native Mandarin speakers as they ordered food and learned about the spicy dishes from this region of Southern China. Travel experiences like these inform students' work in learning world languages and cultures. These excursions enhance the curriculum by encouraging students to interact and develop cultural competence by participating in multilingual communities at home and around the world.
