Peter Ackerman Discusses His "Lonely" Series With Second Graders

Peter Ackerman, the author of The Lonely Phone Booth and The Lonely Typewriter, added a different spin to the second grade study of New York City. He writes about an out-of-date but functional phone booth that saves the Upper West Side (still standing at 100th Street and West End Avenue) and a typewriter, gathering dust in the attic. The typewriter comes to the rescue when a family’s computer conks out. The students were very excited to contribute ideas for the next book in the lonely series (the lonely quill, the lonely mailbox, etc.). They were thrilled to hear an excerpt from his new picture book idea: the lonely record player.
